Tetris Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
