Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
