Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
